The Community Photoworks project, initiated in 2005 by the J. Paul Getty Museum, will culminate in an exhibition of student work at the Golden State Cafe in Los Angeles, California, from May 31–June 7, 2009. The project, aimed at exposing students in Los Angeles to the art of photography, was launched in conjunction with the Getty exhibition, Jo Ann Callis: Woman Twirling. Community Photoworks is a collaboration between the Getty Museum’s education department, the nonprofit writing and tutoring center 826LA, and Los Angeles Senior High School.

WHO: Los Angeles Senior High School US History students; Felicia Perez, teacher
WHAT: Community Photoworks Culminating Exhibit: Attention to Tension. Works inspired by the photography of Jo Ann Callis and the theme of tension.

WHEN: Sunday, May 31; opening remarks, 2:00-3:00; celebration, 3:00-5:00 (exhibit runs through June 13)
