Explore the world of fashion via fashion design, color theory, and costuming. Other possible program highlights could include principles of garment design, sewing basics, modeling and mood boarding. One of the main goals is to teach the 10 students and their parent/guardian how to reuse old fabric or clothing to make new styles in fashion.

Agenda
10am: ICE BREAKER ACTIVITY

The goal is to get everyone thinking about fashion. We will discuss what each person is interested in learning during the weekend as well as what they would like to create and what current fashion styles they like most.

11am: FASHION, SKETCHING, BASIC, SEWING/ALTERING

The first part of design is coming up with an idea and sketching it out. Have everyone make rough sketches of what they would like to make using the 9 heads design template. (We may have to limit the options here so kids don’t sketch formal gowns that we then won’t have time to complete. Perhaps all girls make a skirt etc.)

As kids finish sketches, begin teaching basics on the sewing machines. Teach the basics of sewing before working on their designs.

ACTIVITY: Sew a tote bag that can be used to carry future projects in and keep things together throughout class.

GOAL: All skills learned here will be used for the rest of the class.

12:30-1pm: LUNCH

1:00 – 2:00 pm: FINISH UP TOTE BAGS, BEGIN CUTTING FABRIC FOR THEIR DESIGN
The designs will take a while to complete and in order for them to leave with a completed garment we need to start prepping on day 1.
