"The Inclusion Pilot Program at Los Angeles High School" LACOE Inclusion Conference 11/7/2019
The school year of 2017-18 marked our pilot year of full inclusion at Los Angeles High School. Because of the success of the program, LA High has been chosen as the model for the implementation of full inclusion for the entire Los Angeles Unified School District. The Inclusion Program was also awarded the 2018-19 Humanities award from LAUSD. Multiple special education and general education students have won leadership and achievement awards from both within and outside LAUSD through this program.
Uploaded Dec 29, 2019
Mr. Sahara and Mr. Nkwocha will share how the program originated, how it was implemented, and how we went from a pilot program to an award-winning program for the rest for the district to follow. We will also share with our viewers what a co-taught lesson plan looks like and how we actively use UDL strategies, technology, and the various co-teaching models to reach all levels of learners in our classroom.

10 Minute Timer - Macklemore (Instrumental)
This is an example of a 10-minute timer used in class with music coming in around approximately at the 2-minute mark.
Uploaded Dec 26, 2019
A timer of this length would be used for silent reading, group work and/or class tasks that would take more length in time.
Played at a low level, the music breaks the oftentimes cold silence in the classroom and brings a coffee shop or library experience to the class, while managing every minute of class time. Because of the wide range of learners in an inclusion classroom, inclusion co-teachers must make use of each second as efficiently as possible. -
2018-19 LAUSD Humanitarian Award Ceremony
Sebastian and Zsateau were awarded the prestigious Student Leadership Award from the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Commission on Human Relations, Diversity and Equity in 2018-19 for their achievements and advocacy for full inclusion. In the ceremony of the awards, Board Member, Dr. McKenna could not believe Sebastian and Zsateau were freshman when presenting their speech. Sebastian’s mid-term assignment has become popular throughout LAUSD and the impact of this video has already been felt district wide. It has drawn other schools to visit LA High in their own endeavor to build an inclusive setting (video could be seen here: https://youtu.be/uz2NktPenVE). Sebastian has taken on the role as spokesman for all inclusion students at LA High, but is hoping to influence others throughout our district impacting other special education students like himself.
